As stated on their website, the mission of the New World Symphony (NWS), “is to prepare highly-gifted graduates of distinguished music programs for leadership roles in orchestras and ensembles around the world.

” To know this as an audience member makes the experience of any one of their concerts at the Lincoln Theater of Miami Seaside all the more worthwhile.

This past month, I had the pleasure of attending Musicians’ Forum by The New Globe Symphony (NWS), a free concert displaying the musical talents of young fellows. This presentation of Musicians’ Forum was comprised of the selection of original compositions from symphony fellows along with pieces from Beethoven, Bartók, and Bach, among others, merging the dramatic sounds of the cello, viola, violin, and piano.

The New World Symphony (NWS) at Miami Seaside was established in 1987 under the artistic direction of American conductor, pianist, and composer Michael Tilson Thomas, and has since been heard at prestigious music halls like New York’s Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, London’s Barbican Centre, Paris’s Bastille Opera and Argentina’s Teatro Colon.

The symphony prides itself on being an exceptional learning institution along with a devoted classical music entertainment center for South Florida audiences with a full season of concerts from October to Might. Concerts by The New Globe Symphony are particularly rewarding, often giving fellows the opportunity to present their own concerts that will frequently feature pieces for uncommon instrumentation; a real treat for classical music enthusiasts and “newbies” alike.

The New Globe Symphony has had very the success among South Florida audiences with its diverse and ever active calendar of events. Scanning the calendar for NWS could be very exciting, as music lovers are certain to discover several different concerts, some of them even, like Musicians’ Forum, Inside the Music, and Musical Xchange, free to the public!

Although The New Globe Symphony has had an incredible run at The Lincoln Theater in Miami Seaside, it will soon have a new house. In 2008, they commissioned celebrated architect Frank Gehry to design this new home, still in its beloved city of Miami Beach.

The $130 million project, and the very first Gehry building in Florida, will be part of a “City Center Redevelopment Project that will further enhance the district of Miami Seaside.”

The New Globe Symphony’s Musicians’ Forum is really a should in its diverse seasonal calendar. Its free admission and focus on classical music supply the city of Miami with something different, unique, and reminiscent of an old-world cultural evening out. Its next season is certain to please NWS followers and newcomers with programs complete with performances of pieces by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and much more, in thematic concert evenings like Poetic Portraits, Vintage Italia, and Parisian Glimmers, as listed on their 2010-11 Calendar on www.nws.edu.
